control rates with the UK &amp; Canada, we see that we have much work to do and the sooner we set about improving matters the sooner we will halt the creeping epidemic of the cardiovascular consequences of uncontrolled hypertension. [Nice 2019]<\/p>\n<p>When using ABPM to confirm a diagnosis of hypertension, ensure that at least two measurements per hour are taken during the person&#8217;s usual waking hours (for example, between 08:00 and 22:00). Use the average value of at least 14\u00a0measurements taken during the person&#8217;s usual waking hours to confirm a diagnosis of hypertension. [Nice 2011]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Definitions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In this guideline the following definitions are used.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Stage 1 hypertension\u00a0<\/strong>Clinic blood pressure is <span style=\"color: #ff5200;\">140\/90\u00a0mmHg <\/span>to <span style=\"color: #ff5200;\">159\/99 mmHg <\/span>and subsequent ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) daytime average or home blood pressure monitoring (HBPM) average blood pressure is <span style=\"color: #ff5200;\">135\/85\u00a0mmHg <\/span>to <span style=\"color: #ff5200;\">149\/94mmHg.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Stage 2
